At Long Street Primary School we celebrate and encourage excellence for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Our Aboriginal Education Teacher has a focus engaging Aboriginal students in STEM through working in close collaboration with our Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer in Girls and Boys Aboriginal STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) groups. These groups look at the knowledges Aboriginal peoples have shared over thousands of years regarding how our universe works and technologies that have allowed the world’s longest continuing culture to thrive.
Selected Aboriginal students with a passion in STEM are invited to the annual STEM Congress in Adelaide to inspire future learning and pathways so that they may become leaders in this field. This initiative aligns to the Department for Education’s Aboriginal Education Strategy. Learn more here
Our Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer works in close partnership with Aboriginal students, their family, our local network and community to encourage Aboriginal students to attend school regularly, engaging in their learning so they may thrive and inspire our staff to embed culturally inclusive practices.
